Day 1:

Transfer In + Volcán Osorno

Full-day excursion Type: landscape + short walk. Duration: 6 hrs. Distance: 110 km. Meals included: Snack at Teski shelter.

We will leave from the El Tepual Airport near Puerto Montt heading to Lake Llanquihue, the second largest lake in Chile with an area of ​​860 km2; surrounded by active volcanoes, ancient forests, small cities and towns with fascinating history. This is our great gateway to the Green Patagonia, overflowing with nature.

We will make our first stop for lunch of delicious Chilean seafood in the attractive and historic city of Puerto Varas on the shores of the lake. With almost 45 thousand inhabitants, this city tells the story of a risky German colonization in the mid-nineteenth century to become today one of the communities with the highest quality of life in the country.

Then we will continue heading east along Lake Llanquihue towards the Andes mountain range to drive up the slopes of the Osorno Volcano (2,652). A volcano with an almost perfect cone, an icon of the region. We will ascend to almost half of the volcano, where, weather permitting, we will enjoy a unique view and a short hike.

Then we will head to the hotel.

Day 2:

Flight to Chaiten and entry to Pumalin National Park

We will leave the hotel early for the La Paloma airfield in the city of Puerto Montt. From here we will take a 45-minute plane flight to enter one of the most pristine areas of the Green Patagonia. From this point on, the Chilean territory is increasingly fragmented, between fjords and countless islands, navigation and planes are generally the usual means of transport for both locals and tourists.

The flight lands on the outskirts of Chaiten, a small town just twelve meters above sea level, with five thousand inhabitants, which is dedicated mainly to fishing and increasingly to tourism. From here, by vehicle, your guide will drive you to the Pumalin National Park. This park is an emblem and icon in the conservation of primary forest in Chile; in 1991 the millionaire and environmentalist Douglas Tompkins through the foundation The Conservation Land Trust, began a successive and constant purchase of land for its conservation. He and his team were accused of conspiracy theories against the Chilean State, a farce created by ignorance and the economic interests of forestry companies, but today we finally have a park of more than 400 thousand hectares, which was delivered at the same time as the donation of the Patagonia National Park by the same foundation, with 300 thousand more hectares; making this the largest donation of private land in history. Pumalin Park and Patagonia are the best managed parks in the country and with a great positive impact on the economy and social life surrounding them, it is a privilege to be able to visit them in the peaceful environment that Chile offers us.

After checking in at the cabins and having lunch, we will go for a walk along the Cascada trail; approximately 3 hours and of low difficulty, it takes us to a beautiful waterfall. On the way there is a viewpoint from where it is possible to observe the Huequi Peninsula and large areas of pristine forest.

Day 3:

Chaiten Volcano Ascension and Alerces Trail

Full-day excursion Type: hike. Duration: 7 hours in total // 4 to 5 hours of walking // 1:30 hours in a vehicle. Distance: 65 km of road and 5 km of walking. Meals included: hiking ration.

We will leave around 8 in the morning and after 40 minutes by car we will arrive at the start of our trail; the ascent to the Chaitén Volcano (1,122 mts). It erupted in 2008 after being dormant for 9,000 years, destroying a large part of the city of Chaitén, and causing damage as far away as Argentina. The city was evacuated and its inhabitants displaced for a long period, the park was closed for two years. The new trail with a gradient of 600 meters and a medium to high physical demand, takes us to the edge of the crater, allowing us incredible views of all our surroundings along the way.

We will then head back to Caleta Gonzalo by vehicle to make a final stop at the emblematic Sendero De Alerces, a trail that meanders through an ancient grove of alerces (Fitzroya cupressoides) with specimens that are over 3,000 years old surrounded by the lush density of the Valdivian Forest, an evergreen temperate forest as dense as the jungle.

Day 4:

From Caleta Gonzalo to Ensenada

Full-day excursion Type: Landscape. Duration: 8 to 9 hours in total // 4 to 5 hours by boat // 4 hours by vehicle. Distance: 77 km of navigation and 128 km of road. Meals included: afternoon snack.

We will take this morning off to enjoy our surroundings, which are an attraction in themselves and constitute a place to spend time in the middle of nature.

This day we will arrive late at night at our next destination, since our first boat leaves at 13:00 heading north. We will sail for about four and a half hours with beautiful views through canals and fjords where the Pacific Ocean meets the Andes Mountains, just 28 kilometers from the border with Argentina.

We will then disembark in the town of Hornopiren to continue our trip by car through the Reloncaví Estuary heading north to the town of Ensenada or Petrohue (depending on availability). A journey full of contrasts and social content, with images of powerful nature on one hand, with views of the Yates Volcano (2,187 mts.), surrounded by forests and always accompanied by the fjord, but on the other hand, industrial images linked to the production of salmon and shellfish, which have strongly modified the landscape, the economy and the life of the inhabitants of this territory over the last 15 years.

During the journey we will have a mid-afternoon snack.
Arrival at the hotel around 10 pm.
Overnight in Ensenada or Petrohue according to availability.

Day 5:

Hike Paso Desolación

Full-day excursion Modality: Hike Duration: 8 hours in total // 5-hour hike. Distance: 160 km round trip. Meals included: picnic lunch and coffee.

We will leave at 9:30 in the morning from the hotel towards Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, to the La Picada sector on the north face of the Osorno volcano (2,652 m). From there we will begin a 10-kilometer trek around the volcano from the Llanquihue Lake basin to the Todos Los Santos Lake basin passing through the Desolación Pass at 1,096 meters high.

If the weather permits, the views of this hike are magnificent. The imposing Cerro Tronador, Cerro La Picada, the Los Antes mountain range, and Todos Los Santos Lake are just some of the icons that can be observed. And at the same time, the journey allows us to fully understand the geological formation of the territory.

We will have a picnic on the way and after approximately 5 hours of hiking we will arrive at the Petrohue pier sector on the western edge of Todos Los Santos Lake. We will take a break for coffee and a snack before meeting our driver and vehicle to return to the hotel.

Day 6:

Half day Puerto Varas – Transfer Aeropuerto

Type: hike or cultural tour + Transfer Duration: 4 hours in total. Distance: 40 km. Meals included: lunch.

This day, depending on the client's wishes, we can take another nature walk in the Vicente Pérez Rosales Park, either on more frequented and shorter trails such as the Saltos del Petrohue or another less visited two-hour trail such as “El Solitario”. Otherwise, we can take a cultural city tour on foot of Puerto Varas, visit the Felmer Museum and have lunch at a craft brewery.

After lunch we head to El Tepual Airport on the outskirts of Puerto Montt.
